Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice of VT and NH
Vice President, Development and Communications: Exceeded goals, raising over $2.6 million, revitalized grassroots volunteer groups, conducted pre-capital-campaign feasibility reviews, overhauled the communications program, and upgraded the data-management program (2003 to 2005).
The Keane Group
Raised $32 million.
Principal; provided leadership and planning consulting to agencies and their constituencies (1989 to present).
Vermont Institute of Natural Science, Woodstock VT: Providing hands-on fundraising leadership, strategic planning and systems review, and staff supervision, coordinating the search for director of development and providing overall organization counsel to the CEO (2005 to 2007).
Stanford University/Center for Research on Economic Development
and Policy Reform: Raised over $3 million; Staffed the start-up fundraising efforts by building the program, mobilizing the donor-leaders, and shaping the collatera (1999 to 2003).
Joint Venture: Silicon Valley Network: Raised over $10 million. Served as the fundraising consultant and member of the senior management team (1993 to 1999).
21st Century Education Initiative of Joint Venture: Raised more than $12 million, generally in increments of $1 million (1995 to 1998).
Congressman Tom Campbell: Raised $12 million: $3 million in his primary and general US Senate race in 2000, and $9 million between 1990 and 1999 for re-elections and his 1992 US Senate race. Finance Director, coordinating
efforts nationwide (1989 to 2000).
YMCA Program & Executive Director Positions (1969 to 1988).
YMCA of San Francisco: Peninsula Family Branch, Executive Director; Managed a $2 million annual budget, raising $60,000 annually and over $2MM for a new facility; 24 program locations, 200+ staff, 600 children in 12 child-care locations), fitness, and counseling programs, (1982 to 1988)
Greater Boston YMCA: Executive and program roles (1969 to 1981).
Short-Term Clients and Assignments
Sustainability Institute, Hartland VT: Served as the Interim Managing Director developing personnel, budget and systems infrastructure; provided support to the board in their search for an executive director (2009).
Hanover Chamber Orchestra, Hanover, NH: consulted on a one-month fundraising effort (2009).
Institute for Lifelong Learning at Dartmouth (ILEAD), Hanover, NH: Co-consulting with Yellow Brick Road Consulting on a capital-campaign feasibility study (2008 – 2009).
Northern Stage, White River Junction, VT: Co-consulted with Yellow Brick Road Consulting on a capital-campaign feasibility study (2008).
Chicago-Soft, Ltd., Hanover, NH: Coordinated a one-time special event that exceeded goals (2008).
Upper Valley Humane Society, Enfield NH: Coached board members in the development of a special fundraising program, provided group and one-on-one training and coaching, coordinated and produced a message-development program, and developed and managed a monitoring process to assure results (2008).
Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS), Quechee, VT: Developed and implemented strategy for a key-constituent listening tour that led to the revision of its mission and an organization strategic plan (2008).
Crossroads Academy, Lyme NH: Provided leadership coaching to enhance staff capacity and supporting staff in conducting a development management audit (2007).
Upper Valley Humane Society, Enfield NH: Provided tactical and strategic counsel in developing the 2005 year-end campaign and launching a major-gifts program (2005).
Center for Cartoon Studies, White River Junction VT: Provide periodic development counsel; developed and launched a foundation strategy (2005, ongoing).
Bear Valley Music Festival, Bear Valley CA: Created the fundraising plan for and launched the 2003 fundraising season.
University of California, Haas School of Business, Dean’s Office, Berkeley CA: Conducted a management audit of the development function (2002).
Global Heritage Fund, Palo Alto CA: Created this start-up’s funding strategy, advised on leadership development and conducted early foundation research (2002).
Stanford University/Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research, Palo Alto, CA: Conducted a management audit recommending a fundraising strategy, board-development program and the launch of a business-planning process (2001).
Kids in Common, San Jose CA: Provided counsel to the executive director in the development of an annual-giving program and leadership development (1998-1999).
Technology Network, Palo Alto CA: Managed the partisan fundraising efforts and provided strategic direction for non-partisan PAC fundraising. Predominantly raised funds through individual giving of Silicon Valley and San
Francisco CEOs (1997 to 1998).
Springfield College, Springfield MA: Adjunct Professor for M.Ed. class of 1979; Created, staffed, and managed a masters program for non-profit agency executives. The program, held off campus, enrolled and graduated approximately 20 students (1977 to 1979).
